Maui can be simply described as Hawaiian Zelda. It is the thesis project for Team Kokua at the University of utah.For our thesis projects we are required to have a thesis problem statement. For our game, it is, "How can we convey (Hawaiian) culture accurately and still make a fun, innovative game?". Maui is the embodiment of our attempt to answer this question.
Our aesthetic and general set-up feels a lot like Zelda Windwaker though the art team has gathered a lot of inspiration directly from hawaiian and other polynesian sources. In order to convey the Hawaiian culture we wanted to incorporate it in all aspects of the game including mechanics, aesthetics, and narrative. The mechanics of the game were created from key cultural words/phrases that became systems in the game to convey the feelings or underlying meaning of each word respectively.Watch Gameplay on YouTube

Will's Great Adventure
As a kid I grew up with a classic nes, playing games like Zelda and Mario. Sega genesis was my next console and games like justice league and general chaos enthralled me. From there my love for games grew and I dreamed about the day when I could make my own video games. It's been over a decade since then and though my dreams have been tried and tested, they still remain true to there roots. Will's Great Adventure is my first step in realizing that dream.
Will's Great Adventure is a story about a young man named Will, who lives on a space station. The story begins with a drastic turn of events which leaves Will all alone as he endeavors to escape the space station before it's eminent destruction. WGA is a retro style 8-bit exploration/shooter with original art, music and story with multiple endings.
This game was very fun to create and taught me the value of collaboration. The sounds and most of the art were provided by close friends and family. Coordinating between artists and musicians while acting as producer, director and programmer was a valuable experience that gave me a personal confirmation that my dreams of making video games is one that fulfills and motivates me.Download APK file
Our first assignment for my graduate program was that our teachers went to the dollar store and bought a bag full of cheap toys divided them up among the teams and told us to make a game with that toy as our inspiration. Glow is the product of our team receiving a light up yo-yo. It was a super fun project but further development is on hold.

Our inspiration for this game came from a 1980's racing game. The limitations of this project were that we had to make a game with 1 button and 1 joystick. The result Was Freedom runner.
Freedom Runner is a web based retro racing style editorial game highlighting some of the ridiculously funny complications surrounding north Korea. Future development is currently on hold. *Update* Kenneth Bae was Released from North Korea!!! maybe he was inspired by our game!Play Freedom Runner
Ojos dela Muerte
Ojos dela Muerte is a 3D top down shooter that takes place in the wild west. It is a very fun game but the special thing about this game is that it completely avoids the use of hands in order to play it. Thanks to the Tobii eye tracking technology, We have a game that has many real world applications.
We made this serious game with collaboration from medical experts to address the issue of lazy eye. Other applications for this game include making games for those who cannot hold a controller or those who have difficulty with traditional game playing methods.Watch gameplay on YouTube
Originally we had the idea of a 5-minute rpg adventure where each action you take helps you level up. After many iterations we found the fun by honing in on the concepts of speed and pushing your opponent off the screen. The end result is Sumo-mentum, a multi-player brawler where your main objective is to push enemies off the screen while trying to remain on the platform yourself.
We made this game with Unreal engine 4 and used a combination of C++ and blue prints. I was in charge of the blue prints and asset integration. After many painful hours of learning both the structure and implementation of blueprints as well as the art asset integration system, I can confidently say that I look forward to my next project in Unreal.Watch gameplay on YouTube
